Please join us for our Día de los Muertos event on Friday October 23 4-6:30 pm at the Packer Memorial Church. The focus will be on the historic use of this spiritual tradition by queer activists and allies to raise awareness and make public health demands on behalf of queer folks in Mexico and queer Latinx folks in the diaspora. It will include a short talk by Dr. Alex Brandli about their research on this material (especially on HIV/AIDS activism), a roundtable discussion with local organizations focused on BIPOC health equity and mutual aid in the Lehigh Valley, and a reception to follow. We also invite you to bring photos and mementos to contribute to our community ofrenda and will provide cards to leave notes as an offering. The event is supported by the Health, Medicine, & Society Program, the Latin American & Latino Studies Program, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Department of History, the Pride Center, and the Center for Cultural Engagement.
