Major
Consisting of 45-47 credits, the Environmental Studies B.A. major explores environmental knowledge through a range of disciplinary perspectives, with introductory courses in environmental studies and environmental science and then a concentration in one of three areas: health; policy, planning & law; and politics & society. Each of these concentrations allows for in-depth study of relevant environmental topics and courses designed to develop skills that prepare students for related careers. Potential Double Majors and Minors
The Environmental Studies program is broadly inclusive yet flexible enough to allow for double majors and minors in other fields. Many of our courses are also listed in other departments and programs and students may count three of these cross-listed courses toward degree requirements in both of their majors. Many of our Environmental Studies students double major or minor in anthropology, health, medicine and society (HMS), history, international relations, journalism, political science, psychology, science and environmental writing, or sociology. The same flexibility applies if you want to double major or minor in English, art and architecture, philosophy or religion. The Environmental Studies degree also adds a social and humanistic dimension to students majoring in the B.A. and B.S. programs in Earth and Environmental Science and the B.S. program in Environmental Engineering.
