Drawing from this wide range of disciplines, the Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) Program offers students an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Latin America and Latino populations in the United States. Our internationally recognized faculty teaches courses in Anthropology, Art, Architecture, and Design, English, History, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, and Spanish. With outstanding access to the vast holdings of Latin American and Latino art in the Lehigh University Art Gallery’s teaching collection, LALS also features prominent international speakers and cultural events throughout the academic year.
The major and minor in LALS are designed for students who wish to develop an understanding of a neighboring region as well as Latino cultures in our country. A liberal arts education offers students an international and intercultural vantage point from which they can examine their own society, preparing them to meet the challenges of an increasingly interdependent world. The LALS programs complements the study of other disciplines that have either an international or a domestic focus, and it enhances the relevance of a Lehigh education by preparing students to be citizens of a culturally diverse society and, more generally, of the Americas.
