In her readings, Merle Collins always finds a way of engaging with theater and performance. She will give dramatized readings of excerpts from her fiction and poetry, emphasizing both how scribal traditions are transferred to the stage and ways in which, as Ghanaian poet Kofi Awoonor avers, “Poetry is song, and there’s nothing like a silent song.”
